3 out of 5 stars Disappointing   March 10, 2010
A. Richards (New York)
Here's the problem:

The ice cream sticks to the sides of the bowl mechanism. In order to make ice cream, you have to keep the bowl mechanism in the freezer for 12 hours or something, but then it is TOO cold, and whatever yummy blend you're planning to turn into ice cream freezes to the walls about a centimeter thick. The rest of the batter only semi-freezes.

It gets the job done, but you'll never fool your friends into thinking it's fancy ice cream. More like a glorified milkshake or smoothie.

That said, if you whip together your favorite ingredients, how disappointing can it be!

5 out of 5 stars Ice Cream Maker!   February 26, 2010

If you love ice cream, you'll LOVE this! The different recipes are so fun to make!!! :) It doesn't take long either.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use and clean   February 19, 2010
Larry P. Clark
I have had this for only 3 or 4 weeks, but have made many batches of ice cream. It works great and is easy to use and clean. I leave the freeze part of it in the freezer always ready when wanted. I have actually made one and half batches with it before it defrosts, but you have to have your mixture real cold to start with. I recommend this item for quick fixes of your personal favorite flavors. It will make a batch of ice cream (pre cooled) in about 10 to 15 minutes after pouring mixture into freezer.

1 out of 5 stars Wish I had the other reviewers machine!   February 15, 2010
Linda (Midwest, USA)
Ok, first off...great price IF the machine would have worked like all the other reviewers. I guess I must have had a defective model from the get go. I tried every recipe in the book and other recipe books I've collected over the years. The machine I got NEVER produced ice cream........the results were milk every time. It never thickened, it never even made "ice." The manufacturer states to freeze the bowl a minimum of 6 hours; well I did that and then tried 8, 10, 12, and overnight.......same result every time....milk consistency. What a bummer! Will have to keep on looking for an ice cream maker that actually makes ice cream!

5 out of 5 stars No more store bought ice cream   February 11, 2010
Jaroslaw Aniszewski (Texas)
We bought one at Marshalls. I was scheptical as it was a refurbished model for 30 usd. After making 2 or 3 batches we decided to get another one just to have a spare freezing bowl. It comes handy to prechill the liquid in one and when it is near freezing temperature move it to the second one right out of the freezer and put in the machine. That way the final product is quite well frozen.
I discovered a way to produce very fluffy ice cream. Recipes using custard base call for only egg yolks. I made custard mixes with milk only and added heavy cream (whipped stiff) to chilled custard base along with whipped egg whites. This allows the mixture to retain air bubbles during the process of churning ice cream and prevents it from becoming very hard while in the freezer.
One bowl does not have enough capacity to cool 2 quarts to freezing so it is very important to chill everything in an ice bath beforehand unless a spare bowl is available. I made a mistake of putting room temperature ingredients and ended up with pretty watery product.
I am amazed how fast the process is and how much better the final product. Even in comparison with some expensive brands of ice cream.
And the memories of making delicious ice cream with our kids are priceless
